There are a number of Major Awards available under the QQI Accreditation for Healthcare Assistants. The Healthcare Assistant can choose which award to go for depending on the sector they want to work in or how they want to progress their career. - 5M4339 Healthcare Support – Mainly Suitable for Healthcare Assistants working in Nursing Homes, Day Care Centres or Home Care Settings
- 5M4349 Nursing Studies – Mainly Suitable for Healthcare Assistants who wish to progress to further studies in the area of nursing
- 5M1761 Intellectual Disability Practice – Mainly suitable for Healthcare Assistants working with people with intellectual disabilities
- 5M4468 Community Health Services – Mainly suitable for Healthcare Assistants working in community health services
- 5M3782 Health Service Skills – Mainly suitable for Healthcare Assistants working in HSE Hospitals
- 5M2786 Community Care – Mainly suitable for Healthcare Assistants working in community care
Qualification requirement for new HCA entrants’ is currently the QQI Level 5 Major Award in Healthcare Support, consisting of 8 modules from a range of options some of which are mandatory. The award consists of five compulsory modules, with the remaining modules selected depending upon the current or intended area of practice.
